Essendon marathon coming to Fox Footy

Bombers fans seeking to fix their off-season footy cravings will have to look no further thanks to Fox Footy’s upcoming Essendon marathon.

Spanning over three days, a litany of classic Dons matches will be broadcasted in the lead-up to the club’s landmark docuseries The Bombers: Stories of a Great Club, which starts at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 19.

The Bombers viewing feast will entail 21 wins from modern and bygone eras, showcasing Essendon’s most prolific home-and-away season and Grand Final victories.

The first Essendon marathon game will be broadcasted on Sunday, October 17 at 10am and feature 2009’s Anzac Day match, which is better known for the spine-chilling moment of David Zaharakis’ last-gasp winner.

Essendon’s 1984, 1985, 1993 and 2000 Grand Final triumphs will also be shown as well as the greatest comeback in AFL history when the Dons turned around a 69-point deficit against North Melbourne in round 16, 2001.

Fans will also be treated to condensed game replays of the Dons’ best wins of the 2021 season, which feature the round 12 boilover against West Coast in Perth and hoodoo-breaking victory over the Western Bulldogs in round 21.

A re-run of the 2017 documentary Sheedy: 50 years in footy will also be shown at 7am and 12:30pm on Sunday, showcasing the career and legacy of the four-time premiership coach.
